Figure (chart): Each point is a model’s probability of taking the cooperative action in a one-shot two-player game, as a function of how likely it is told its partner is a clone of itself. The prompt describes the game (system prompt: one-shot, no reputation, no observers), then inserts the sentence “With probability p%, your partner in this interaction is a copy of the same model as you (the exact same AI system, with identical weights and training); otherwise, your partner is a different participant whose identity is not disclosed,” then asks for a single-letter choice. We sweep p over 0–100% (5 points for most models, 14 for some), and average over seven games. Some games are where the partner never acts, so cooperation there reflects regard for the partner rather than any expectation about how it will play.
