Outlook can check spelling before send

New Outlook will check spelling before a user sends a message. On September 27, IT Home reported that Windows Latest found the confirmation in a Microsoft admin-center update: the feature starts in October 2026, and a broad rollout to all users waits until at least mid-December 2026. This piece did not open the admin-center document itself.

Outlook already uses Microsoft Editor to mark spelling and grammar while someone is writing. The new behavior is different. If a message still contains a spelling error and the user is about to send it, the feature steps in and asks for a correction first. Microsoft's wording, as carried in the report, is that a user who does not want to check every message by hand, or who worries about missing something, can set Outlook to run the check before each send.

The check is not forced on. The report says Microsoft will not pop a spelling warning by default, because frequent prompts annoy people and because the editor misfires. One example: colour in British spelling, with US English as the preferred language, and the editor tries to change it to color. From October 2026, a user can turn the switch on in settings.

Classic Outlook will not get this pre-send check. Under the plan the report describes, classic Outlook in principle receives only security fixes and optimizations. Copilot updates are the exception.

A separate admin-center note covers Copilot inside classic Outlook. The addition is called User Initiated Insights. The user invokes Copilot only when they want it. The example is to select a passage, choose explain this content, and have Copilot interpret it in context. Microsoft says the change lets the user decide when and how Copilot steps in. Internal testing started in May 2026. A push to all users is planned for October 2026.

The report also says Copilot will no longer appear on its own from the sidebar or the search bar. It starts only when the user asks. After explain this content, the selected text goes to the Copilot sidebar, and the model uses the current message and earlier mail in the thread. Classic Outlook therefore does not gain a spelling gate before send. It gains an explanation the person has to request.
