Perplexity has the fastest and most capable Search API, powered by our own Rust-based retrieval and ranking engine, Photon, achieving sub-250ms p95 latency while still ranking highly on relevance and accuracy benchmarks. Photon was built by a small team and hundreds of auto-research loops powered by a more capable internal version of Perplexity Computer. The auto-research loops will help us continually hill-climb on the Pareto frontier to build the fastest and most accurate search infrastructure in the world.
