The IT Home page is stamped 2026/10/20 7:25:14. The body says that on Oct 19, local time, NVIDIA ran a fault-tolerant quantum-computing simulation at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany. The machine was the European supercomputer JUPITER, built on NVIDIA GH200 chips. This run used 8,192 GPUs and simulated 104 qubits. The page calls it the largest comprehensive simulation yet of a fault-tolerant quantum-computing system. “Largest” is this page’s claim. It does not list the earlier runs being compared.

The reduction depends on the comparison. The page says the simulation was used to examine a scheme it names Magic State Cultivation, and that, compared with earlier methods, it used 90% fewer physical qubits. That 90% is NVIDIA’s relative figure, not an absolute count from an independent measurement. The page goes on to say this will shorten the path to a practical quantum computer by several years. Several years has no start date and no schedule to compare, so it stays their judgment.
[1]The same page also says that on Oct 19, 2026, Quantinuum claimed its Helios machine had reached a record logical fidelity. The fidelity figure is not printed, so it cannot be ranked beside the 8,192-GPU simulation. How the scheme joins quantum states is not in this edition. Hardware results from before this window are not written in as this story’s result.
