The stamp at the top of this IT Home page is 2026/10/23 9:30:01. Yesterday, October 22, Anthropic announced that it was donating the Agent Skills open standard to the Agentic AI Foundation, AAIF, under the Linux Foundation. The page says this moves the standard from one company's project to community governance. AAIF was founded on December 9, 2025, is operated by the Linux Foundation, and was created by Anthropic, Block, and OpenAI. Anthropic had already donated the Model Context Protocol, MCP, to the same organization. MCP is the earlier donation. It is not this round's install count.

The page defines the standard as a folder that contains a SKILL.md file, used to tell an agent about a task or a domain, and that may also hold scripts, templates, and reference material. The definition stops at what is in the folder. This story does not explain how to write that file, and it does not explain how to load it into a product. Since the open release in December 2025, more than 70 agent platforms have integrated it, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code. More than 70 is a count of platforms, not a count of public skills.

The counts are Anthropic's. Public skills have reached about 1 million, and installs about 280 million. About is the page's wording. This page attaches neither an export of the public catalog nor an install log. Besides the specification, the donation includes the name, the logo, the GitHub organization, and the agentskills.io domain. The specification, name, logo, organization, and domain are the scope of the gift. About 1 million and about 280 million are statements of scale. They should not be added into one total.

Anthropic says the standard will stay open, community-led, and vendor-neutral. Developers and companies can keep using it or contributing without joining AAIF. Use without joining is a boundary on the page, not a registration procedure. The judgment is therefore this: the donation has been announced, and the host is AAIF under the Linux Foundation; about 1 million skills and about 280 million installs are the scale Anthropic gives; a folder that holds an instruction file is the page's own definition, not a writing guide from this story.
