The stamp on this IT Home page is 2026/10/24 8:59:37. It retells Reuters: on the 24th, local time, the UK government announced about 600 million pounds, focused on public-health and safety risks from AI. The page says the biosecurity plan receives the most money. One line is 100 million pounds to build an AI biosecurity laboratory, for identifying biological threats. Another is 65 million pounds, placed on preparedness and response aimed at pathogens. This page gives the amounts and the names of the uses. How a laboratory would identify a threat, and how those measures would be carried out, is not written here. The AI minister named on the page says the government wants the laboratory to become an institution with global weight, bringing researchers together to protect the public from new biological threats. That is his hope. It is not a laboratory the page says is already built.

The company figures have to be read apart from the government lines. OpenAI and Anthropic will provide up to 200 million pounds of AI model-use credit for the biosecurity plan. Up to 200 million is a ceiling on credit. The page does not call it cash already paid out. Google DeepMind, and the London AI life-science company Basecamp Research, will also provide support. The form and the amount of that support are not on this page. The UK AI Security Institute receives an additional 120 million pounds from the government. That addition is the institute's line. It is not the same as the 100 million for the laboratory.

Two cybersecurity lines share 130 million pounds. The page names two new projects: a national cyber shield, and a national centre for cyber-risk exposure and live vulnerabilities. It says the money is to raise protection for critical infrastructure and for the economy as a whole. How that protection would be done is not written here. Two further lines are each 60 million pounds, with different uses. One sets up an investment fund for UK companies using AI in robots, autonomous systems, and manufacturing. The other is for AI research and procurement contracts. The two amounts should not be folded into one line.

The remaining lines stay as the page lists them. An additional 23 million pounds studies how AI affects the economy. Eighteen million pounds builds a chip-design academy. Fifteen million pounds sets up prizes for using AI on public-policy problems, with the first focus on health and medicine. A prize is not a treatment. The method is left out. Thirty million pounds goes to regional mayors for local AI projects. The National Cyber Security Centre also receives extra money to expand its Manchester work, and the amount is not yet published. About 600 million pounds is the total the government announced. The lines above are printed one by one. This story does not add them up to prove the 600 million. Currency conversion stays off the page.
