TechCrunch reports that Replit chief executive and co-founder Amjad Masad said on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt on 16 October that the company is no longer working with Anthropic. He said the decision had several reasons, including cost. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, and until this appearance there had been no public sign that it had left Anthropic.

Masad said he thinks ChatGPT is better now. The company uses an internal benchmark for performance and also publishes a public one. His words were that Sol and Astra consistently perform better at building applications from scratch. He called it a decision based on cost, partnership, and performance, and said that for now they felt the other side was the better partner. The earlier partnership had Replit running its platform on Claude. The article says that partnership was said to have helped revenue grow significantly. That “was said” is the article’s attribution, not a revenue table.
[1]People familiar with the partnership rejected the comment. One person, who asked not to be named, said the partnership was still in place. TechCrunch also points to public traces: the site, blog posts, and social posts were still using Anthropic products as recently as a few weeks earlier. A late-September blog post cites Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models in Replit Agent’s production environment. Around the same time, a product employee posted on X about using Opus 5.5. Those traces show use in late September. They do not by themselves settle the state of the partnership on 16 October.
[1]TechCrunch says it asked Replit again and will update the story if it hears back. As published, the two accounts sit side by side: the stage said it had ended, and a person familiar said it had not. This draft does not turn either sentence into a verified outcome.
[1]In the same conversation Masad also described the revenue mix, and said the company is not sharing annual recurring revenue yet. He said enterprise was about 2% of revenue last year, that enterprise contracts are about 15% this year, and that more than 50% of revenue is business-to-business. Those shares are what he said on stage. They are a separate fact from whether the Anthropic partnership has ended.
