Semafor: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is emerging as a leading candidate for President Trump’s new AI czar role.
Trump said on Sept-9 that he would create an “AI Force” and appoint a new AI czar.
Bessent has already moved into a central AI-policy role, including talks this week with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng ahead of Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping.
Semafor has also reported that Bessent became more involved after financial institutions warned him that advanced AI systems could expose critical financial infrastructure.
