A lot of drama going on. Stakes are really high for this one, and it’s hard to discern what to believe. My sense is that most of the conversations that have been reported are probably accurate, OAI did not have access to user logs during this process, but they did hear through some other means which direction Tristan and Levent were going, and managed to utilize that information for their own benefit. Just my 2c. And if you are surprised and shocked with how some of these conversations, you have probably never worked in academic research environment.
