My take: this is all true for “abstract” math, the kind that sparkled curiosity and ambition, but could only be truly appreciated by an extremely narrow group of extremely high-IQ individuals. This kind of math may indeed be close to end as a profession. But if we are truly headed to the post-abundance world, then math as a *vocation* could experience an explosion. There are many of us who truly enjoy thinking about math and trying to figure it out and understand it the best we can. Math could indeed become accessible to vastly more people than what the traditional institutional mathematics ever could have accomplished.
